faq text

An ecosystem of founders and funders of profitable, sustainable, calm businesses.

October 17-20, 2022, in Asheville, NC

Why not have fireside chats around an *actual* fire?

Hiking, kayaking, and rock climbing aren’t the first things that come to mind when you think of a typical startup conference. But then, Founder Summit is not your typical startup conference.

With culture and activity at the core of its experience, Founder Summit is designed to energize and invigorate attendees while putting them in the same rooms (and boats) as the brightest minds in business. Think of it as a company retreat for founders.

Join 150+ friendly founders and funders of calm companies

Whether you consider yourself an entrepreneur, a bootstrapped founder, a maker or otherwise—if you’re building a company, you belong at Founder Summit. You’ll be joined by Calm Company Fund portfolio founders and mentors, as well as other like-minded founders that are prioritizing and pursuing sustainable success.

As for programming, the panels and workshops are all led by incredible founders who have actually done the thing you’re trying to do—whether that’s building a profitable business for the long term, or locking down a 7-figure exit.

Why host in Asheville?

Situated on 1,400 acres in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, our fall venue has its own 30-acre lake, 20 miles of private hiking trails, a child rec center (bring the family!) and an absolute embarrassment of rocking chairs.

The rustic setting is perfect for morning meditations, afternoon hikes or yoga, and lakeside drinks each evening. Plus, the fully-updated, feature-rich lodgings means you don’t have to choose between having your very own fireplace and really good wifi.

The retreat is nicely secluded, but it’s also just a short drive to a bustling downtown, the waterfalls of Dupont State Forest, and several of the region’s apple orchards. You might even want to add a few days to the beginning and/or end of your conference to avail yourself of everything Asheville has to offer.

Did we mention rocking chairs?

Founder love from our 2021 summit

Take a look at our agenda from last year’s Founder Summit for a sense of what we got up to in Mexico City. This time around, you can expect a range of activities that make the most of our time together in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains.

Get ready for...

  • Conversations you're not having: Off-the-record discussions with world-class experts on building incredible products, hiring a remote team, creating a sustainable culture, and building calm companies.
  • Adventures in the great outdoors: Stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, archery, rock climbing, and hikes. Chill out with yoga, meditation, or a walk in the labyrinth. And head off site to local breweries, restaurants, and apple orchards.
  • Choose your own adventure programming: Whether you want to learn how to build an SEO machine, buy a house as a founder, or throw clay on the pottery wheel, there’s something for you. And no burnout allowed—step away for a break whenever you like.
  • Fresh faces all week long: Daytime activities may be broken up in smaller groups, but there will be epic group dinners and evening events for everybody.

What you won't do is....

  • Listen to endless sales pitches. The summit will be a strictly enforced pitch-free zone. Sit quietly and answer emails while pretending to listen to an hour-long powerpoint presentation.
  • Pay for a famous founder’s vacation. Everyone attends Founder Summit for the same reason, and—while we have absolutely incredible presenters on site—we don’t draw any formal lines between speakers and attendees.

Where can I stay?

For full details, including images of the lodging options available, please visit our Founder Summit: Camp Lodging page here. An abbreviated description is below.

The Inn has 61 traditional, hotel-style guest rooms with private bathrooms and shared balconies. Recently updated, these comfortable guest rooms are furnished with one king or two queen beds and include a wide range of amenities. (This is the optimal lodging for folks seeking ADA Accessible accommodations.)

There are also dozens of fully renovated and updated cottages. Ranging from one to six bedrooms, these charming historic cottages are great for those looking to share space with family, friends, or new founder friends. Featuring views of the lake or camp, most cottages have two twin beds per room, private bathrooms, living rooms with working fireplaces, furnished porches, and ceiling fans.

Note that lodging selections will be first-come first-serve. Since the retreats grounds will serve as “campus” for the event, and some events will run after hours, we’d strongly recommend staying on site rather than an off-site hotel—but that’s totally up to you, as there’s plenty of parking if you do decide to commute in.

Are you taking Covid precautions?

We know that the last couple of years have made planning ahead pretty difficult, but we’re committed to making this event happen. We’re also committed to keeping you safe.

We’ll be monitoring the state of things this year, but in the meantime we’re planning to implement the same precautions we did for our Founder Summit CDMX event (at which there were zero reported illnesses).

All attendees will be required to show proof of vaccination. The majority of the programming will take place outdoors.
We plan to have tests available, and to conduct them on site before any large indoor gatherings.

Most importantly, we’ll keep you posted between now and then no matter what.
Below are a few of the most commonly asked questions, but you can visit our full FAQ here. If you see questions not addressed below or in the full FAQ, please feel free to email us at info@foundersummit.co.
